Ultra amazing experience at Iwashita collection. The owner MR Iwashita, age 68 (2019) is still working at the shop we managed to have a short chat with him. There are many different themes of display and staff are very knowledgeable and take pride in their collection. Definitely worth making a trip here. There are many vintage and retro items for sale too.
Wow. Mind blowing collection of historical and important motorcycles, but also film posters and memorabilia, American and Japanese toys, incredible audio equipment, important historical cars and more. All in an unassuming warehouse. A must visit if you are in the area. Extraordinary.
Edit: it seems others have come here expecting a museum. It is not a museum so much as a display of one man's lifetime of collecting and some of the stories that go with them.
We were staying in Yufuin at an Airbnb and passed by the museum in our car, it was the very large old steam locomotive that first grabbed our attention ... how on earth did they get it there?! Our family went in and the hosts were very interested in our visit from Canada. I let them know i drove a Honda 90 trail bike motorcycle when i was a boy. We stayed for quite awhile wandering through all the floors, such an eclectic collection! We noticed that they only had US money in one of their collections so offered them a couple of Canadian bills to augment their collection and took a quick picture. They gave us some very nice parting gifts - highly recommended museum and genuinely nice & interesting people!
Super cool museum! Gets cooler and cooler the further in you get. So many super neat things. It was neat to see a motorcycle I own in a museum. Would love to come again.
Funny! But the bikes collection is not so good ! I prefer the shows style collection on the first floor
Exceptional place. Warm reception and loopy collection. Recommended!
The museum and the people running the museum are amazing. The motorcycle collection is very impressive. So is everything else in the museum. The owners made me and my son coffee and sat with us. Talked with us. Then if that wasn't enough they gave us really nice cut glass cups as a gift. The owner telling us " it's for our Canadian Whiskey". Then to top it off they drive us back to the city centre. Truly amazing, friendly people.
Astounding collection of motorcycles! Both Japanese and international and from all time periods.
The showa period things are also really great! This place is packed with Japanese memorabilia, posters, advertisements, and much much more. The staff is also very helpful and knowledgeable about the things there.
This is Definitely worth a visit if you are in Yufuin and have any interest in motorcycles or 1930-1980’s Japanese pop culture.
Building can be cold in winter so dress warmly!
Highly recommended!
